Shiroda in Goa

The village of Shiroda is exquisitely beautiful and artistic and has densely covered tall green palm fringes with salt planks appearing like artificially placed white pearls.

The Shiroda village is one the significant places in and around Ponda Taluka as the famous Kamakshi temple and Rayeshwar temple are found here. These are so famous that the Ayurvedic and Engineering College is dedicated to these deities. The engineering college is known as Shri Rayeshwar Institute Of Engineering Information Technology.

The Kamakshi temple situated in Shiroda is dedicated to Kamakshi or Goddess Kamakhya, originally a deity from Guwahati, Assam. She is also known as Parvati or consort of Lord Shiva and is known as Shantadurga or Goddess of Peace. The original temple of the deity was in Raia in Salcete Taluka which was destroyed during the missionary activities and the idol of Kamakshi was carried away to Shiroda where it is now situated.

There are 2 schools in Shiroda known as the Smt Kamlabai Hede High School and the St Joseph School. The church located in the village is known as the St. Joseph Church. For accommodation in the village of Shiroda, one may find some rooms given on rent by the locals. As the village is small, there are no luxury hotels with top class facilities.
