Over several decades, Goans have immigrated abroad to both lands near and far. There is a high population density of Goans in Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom. However these Goans still stay true to their roots and often gather for annual events whether it be sports, birthdays or feasts.
Some Goan communities often communicate on a global scale, with use of the internet. For example in the United Kingdom there was a lack of community spirit amongst the youngsters. 'Young London Goan Society ' was formed. This allowed young Goans to mingle with fellow Goans in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.
YLGS now has many social events such as charity balls, day trip to amusement parks, salsa nights and the monthly meetups. There is something for everyone. YLGS started about two years back and has now expanded dramatically with over 400 members not only in the UK but Holland, Germany and Zimbabwe. YLGS now have their own newsletter and website. This exemplifies the Goan spirit.

“To provide Goans and their friends an enjoyable and a relaxing time without the need for formal membership. In doing this, we will showcase our cultural activities and also learn and integrate with the multicultural society of Melbourne”.
We do not have membership or a hierarchy in our organisation. We believe that formal structures may not necessararily be the best way to project the image of a community particularly when one is a minority in a large multicultural country like Australia.

The G.O.A. was unofficially formed in 1970 as a few Goan families hastily put together a Christmas party. I don't think they would have known the profound affect of their efforts that December.
The Goans of America (G.O.A.) has grown and evolved since. There are over 300 families and now activities run year round. But much is the same. The G.O.A. is still an organization dedicated to unifying our Goan community here in the Southern California area. It aims to be a way for families to get together, a means to pass our culture to our children, and of course a way for us all to enjoy ourselves.
It has now been over 30 years since the founding, and the G.O.A. is still alive and kicking, only hoping to grow more and be more influential in the lives of Los Angeles Goans!

Faith, Hope & Unity
Hi Everyone,
This is a journey for me, something that I and my team wanted to do for our youngsters and children, to be part as a family at our Goan functions, so that they can feel appreciated and also have a special part of being significant. I have every confidence as a Goan, unity will bring happiness to our children who so often get left in the background at functions. They're our future and we intend to accomplish what we started.
Greatness of being a Goan
Firstly, let us remember who we are and how far we have travelled in life and what has brought us together to be a Goan community. If for a moment, we can set aside our differences, reaffirm ourselves, that we are all special, all equal and that we are all free in this world. Greatness has to be earned, followed by happiness and that is what I and my team achieved for the Christmas dance and Hawaiian night.
Ohana - Is our code meaning "No one get's left behind"
Past, Present & Future
We have to thank our past generations, our grandparents, for the sacrifices and for how hard they worked to bring us up and for giving us the "best", that's why we as Goans are here today. So, we will carry on and build and not destroy what we were brought up to believe in of being a truly unique and blessed Goan community.

The Divar Association of Toronto is a community of goans hailing from the island of Divar, IN TISWADDI(IHLAS) and some of their goan well wishers. We observe a tremendous interest among the young ones and many seniors who are passionate about the goan cause. We celebrate the Bonderam Festival and World Goa Day in August each year.
