A volley of sounds emanating from the beats of the traditional dhols and tashes, besides the shouts of joy of the Shigmo revelers were in the air, as Quepem residents rejoiced to the tunes of Ossai Ossai and Ghumche katar ghum at the Shigmo celebrations organized by Nav Yug Vikas Manch at Quepem today. The Shigmotsav parade held today received tremendous response from the participants and the public alike, as altogether 97 troupes participated in the floats, romtamells and folk dances organized on the occasion.

While as many as 47 tableaux depicting various scenes from mythology were showcased in the float parade, 16 troupes of ‘Romtamells’ drawn from various towns of Goa enthralled the spectators that lined up on both sides of the road.

Women from villages such as Morpirla, Gokuldem, Barcem and Sattari displayed their spectacular dancing skills in performances such as fugdeos and talgadis. Nonetheless, the items that captivated the crowds were the various forms of samai nrutyas (lamp dances) performed by rural women – a splendid display of the art of balancing and concentration.
