Bhagavati temple

The Shri Bhagavati temple dedicated to Goddess Bhagavati is an ancient temple located in the Pernem taluka of North Goa at about 28 kms from Panaji. It is said to be more than 500 years old and is situated by the side of the main road.

At the entrance of the Bhagavati temple on either side one can see two life size images of elephants in standing position made of black stone to welcome the visitors. On a high pedestal in a standing position the Goddess Bhagavati Asthbhuja is also very imposing.

Goddess Bhagavati is also known as the eight handed goddess and is one of the forms of goddess Durga. The main festival celebrated at this temple is Dussehra which is attended by as many as 25000 devotees. The festival is one of the main attractions here and is celebrated with gaiety from Ashwin Shuddha Pratipada to Poornima.
