Betim Gurudwara in Goa

In Punjabi language the word Guru means Teacher and Dwar means Residence. So it means Teachers Residence.Guru Hargobind introduced the word, "Gurudwara" meaning the gateway through which the Guru could be reached. At the Gurudwaras the holiest book of the Sikhs that is the Guru Granth Sahib is stored and read from in public discourses.The three main functions have to be carried out in the Public Gurudwara are Kirtan, Katha and Langar. Since Goa has a very small settled number of Sikhs. Goa has very few Gurudwara temples. In short the Gurudwara is a Sikh meeting place. Gurudwara means "the house of the guru".This Gurusdwara in Betim was opened by Ex-President of India His Excellency Mr. Giani Zail Singh in 1984
