Shri Ganesh Temple Candola

After Savoi – Verem next village you’ll find is Candola, the temple here of Ganesh or Ganapathi is the only temple in Goa as the main deity. The view here is surrounded by green stretch of paddy fields, north road taking you to course of Mandovi, the river view where opposite it banks takes the activity of mining.

Starting more than 700 years ago, this particular image had an eventfully life as a main deity of the village of Ela, the village which was supposed to become the Golden City of Goa. He was moved from here to the hilltop of Divar, then to Bicholim and here to Candola, the story of has traveling has been described earlier.

The temple building is a blend of the old with the new in terms of the segmented dome. The image of the deity is finely sculpted and literally shifted to one side in the main altar or garbagriha.
