Our lady of Immaculate Conception Church
This church is one of Panjim’s best attractions located in the heart of Panjim city. It is said that this church was the first one to be established in Goa in the year 1540. It was further re-constructed in the year 1619 to give more space to the increase devotees.
Originally this soil was plain paddy field, a small hilly place, before this church attraction in this town was an Idalco Palace built by Adil Shah, just above this place this church of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception is situated, standing on the gallery of the church, and you can see entire view of lovely Panjim city.
The decoration of this church is simple, but still it is amazing to the eyes because of it simplicity. This church has two altars on both the side, left side is dedicated to Jesus and right side is dedicated to Our Lady of Rosary. Beside this the statue of St. Peter and St. Paul are kept on the both side of altars. On the right side of main altar in the south transept there is St. Francis Xavier’s chapel with statue built in.
This church is actually honoured in the name of Mother Mary. The feast of this church is celebrated on 8th December every year. During its feast this church is beautifully decorated with lights and decoration, if see the view of this church in the night, the immediate thought in your mind will come is that city is celebrating wedding ceremony and the church bride.
Infact this location of church so popular that many films shooting have been carried on this place. Standing on the high on the hill this church is the crown of Panjim city.
