The year 2006 has been a very difficult year for the travel industry, but hard work, dedication and product knowledge has allowed me to excel in our struggling industry

With competitive margins not scaring the customers off nor being undervalued for my work ,my overall turnover was just below £1million this year which although involved a lot of hard work, but without the support of my loyal clients I would not have been in the top 12 of Future Travel – a company of which I am proud to be part of and of which has a turnover of approx £550million.

I mainly specialise in the Indian Ocean, ie India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Dubai – but it is the passion I have selling a holiday to exotic destinations like these which brings even the faint hearted to go somewhere – where they have never been all their life.

I put together holidays right from wildlife safaris, bird watching to trekking in the Himalays, Toy Trains to Tea Plantations to accommodation from Palaces to Forts (now converted to hotels) to exotic beaches. Heritage, culture and the people is what makes the destination – and this is what India still preserves – right from Alexander the Great to the British Empire – the Indian subcontinent has survived and preserved every passing dynasty which appeals to mature people of all ages.

From time to time besides the usual newsletter and updating clients on offers available – I also send reward vouchers for clients who recommend me because I think there is no greater tool in marketing than word of mouth. I consider my loyal clients as my foot soldiers because every client gets me five more clients. I also send goodies like fridge magnets, desk top calendars and recently advertised in the prestigious Ascot Golf Club membership diaries to let potential customers aware of my existence. I have been selected as the finalist for The Agent Achievement Awards 2007 for the Best Travel Agent in UK .

I am also in constant touch with my suppliers ie hoteliers in resort and tour operators and whenever I am in resort I make sure I visit them, returning with new ideas and first hand information and knowledge .which always keeps me in the driving seat .

There are few jobs in this world that pays one what you love to do and makes you feel proud about yourself. People forget all their misery when they call to book their holiday and when they go back with memories of their wonderful holiday.

At the end of the day I do the hard work to plan and take off the strain, stress and headache to make their holiday a memorable one.

Ascot-based Travel Agent Werner Gomes has thrown a beach party for his top 200 customers from UK -

Goan born Werner, who works for the Personal Travel Advisors division of Future Travel staged the event on Monday 22 Jan, in the Resort of Cavelossim to thank all of his clients for their support during 2006

Werner works from home selling holidays to destinations across the world but specialises in tailor made itineraries to the Indian sub continent

Werner has a degree in Science but chose to work in the Travel Industry .He said “I absolutely love my job and wouldn’t want to do anything else .2006 was a very busy year for me and I wanted to find a way to thank my customers who have supported me throughout .

“Staging a beach party in Goa seemed like the perfect way to show my appreciation. It was a fantastic event which included a live band , DJ and spectacular fire work display ,with all meals and an open bar on the house. It was nice to catch up with everyone and thank them personally for continuing to book their holidays with me
