Terry Vaz is the co-founder of Goa’s popular band ‘Lynx’. He sings and plays the guitar along with his brother, Jude Vaz. Terry was born into a musical family -- his father trained Church choirs, and led his own band in East Africa, in which his mother also sang. His journey as a musician began when he was 10 years old. His parents gifted him a guitar from Africa. Young Terry was not amused with this gift and left it alone for a year until his father returned home from South Africa only to see the lovely guitar getting rusty. This saddened his father and the expression on his face brought about a transformation in Terry who decided to learn the guitar in earnest (to the point of bleeding fingers), little knowing that 38 years later he would be rated among Goa’s finest musicians.

Currently have two gigs lined up abroad - Kuwait, a Club 9 function on Nov 23rd & one in Dubai on Dec 14th. Interestingly this one's a 'Konkan Coast' celebration - with bands from the konkan region - right from Sri Lanka, Mangalore, and Goa, besides famed individuals from all over. Goa's nightingale, Lorna with Norman, together with LYNX will represent Goa.
We would like our Goan brethren returning home for Xmas week, looking for a good New Year outing - We are tied up with Holiday Inn Cavelossim, for one of the most spectacular Gala New Year Eve functions in Goa - ' The Silver Ball ' - very reasonably priced, for a great night out with prizes galore that include free holiday packages, free flight tickets, 5 star hotel stays, etc. The evening has LYNX & another good Goan band ushering in the new year with a dazzling display of fireworks. Holiday Inn's ' diamond in the crown ' for this celebration is the culinary expertise of their famed chefs - culminating in an extra special visual and gastronomique extravaganza at the sumptuous buffet spread.
After passing the initial phase, he was a regular member of the class bands while studying in St Britto’s, Mapusa. Moving out of school, Terence went to Chennai (then Madras) to pursue further studies as he aspired to be a doctor -- or a priest. There too, Terry was very active in music and won prizes at inter-collegiate competitions.
His aspiration of becoming a doctor was shattered when circumstances forced him to build a career in music. At the same time he did not abandon the Church choir where he eventually met the members of the ‘Link’ and soon became a part of it. ‘Link’ and another band ‘Sting’ led by the late August Braganza, dominated the Goa music scene in the late 1970s. ‘Link’ also had the distinction of being the first band in Goa to be contracted at a hotel, in 1978. Terry performed at the Bogmalo beach Resort for 17 consecutive years before splitting in 1994. While he was in Bogmalo, he considers himself lucky to personally associate with international stars like Uriah Heep, Osibisa, ‘Bootleg Beatles’, ‘Bootleg Doors’ and Nick Kershaw who were famous in the ‘80s. Through those years Terry remembers the outstanding musicians who helped form his present musicianship: Augusto De Melo, Conny Fernandes, Xisto Paes, Darryl Rodrigues, Agnel Crasto and Anthony De Souza among others.
Lynx’ was formed in 1994 with three ex-members of ‘Link’ -- Terry Vaz (guitar), Conny Fernandes, (keyboard) and Augusto de Melo (bass guitar). Jude Vaz former member of ‘Big City Band’, also joined his brother along with James Rebello (drums). Lynx soon became famous for their live music, and always had extraordinary musicians like Glen Pinto who could possibly be India’s best Latin American/Salsa drummer, Cassie who plays drums for Colonial Cousins and RABI, Domnic Pereira, Eddie Pinto, among others. The band put in long hours of dedicated practice in order to give their audience ‘unadulterated’ entertainment which eventually took them to England, Dubai, Kuwait, Qatar, etc for their shows. Terence feels that Goa is able to produce musicians of high quality because music has always been a part of Goan culture. “Goans are very talented, but I feel saddened that talent is being killed by sequenced music.” Lynx’s album “Viva Goenkar”, which has the credit of being the first CD ever to be made in Konkani music was released in 1996. Terry and Daryl have two original songs in the album, which was a huge success. Lynx is all set to record a new album of original songs which is likely to be released in December.
